We have aa Lapierre Waterloo Small mini pro and really like it. We use it mostly to demonstrate the operation of an evaporator and also as funds raiser, selling the syrup We make.
I have an issue with the float valve that let's concentrate from the evaporating pan into the finishing pan. At the start of the season it works perfectly. However, as the season progresses, bits of debris (nitre flakes) tend to get stuck on the valve seal and hold the valve open, causing the finishing pan to flood.
I know the proper way to fix it would be to drain and clean the evap pan but trying to avoid that due to the disruption it would cause. Are there alternatives to the float valve or other quick fixes that others have used to overcome this issue? I considered adding a screen but feared it would just clog and then starve the finishing pan of sap which would be far worse than flooding!!
