Is there such thing as a sap hydrometer correction chart? My sap hydrometer is calibrated at 38*F but the sap I was testing today (first collection) was between 12-12.4*F. I was wondering this because syrup hydrometers have the correction chart for figuring density. Does this idea also apply to sap hydrometers?

Had just occurred to me so I was curious...

Yes there are, you can find them on the web (I could point you to some). But I'm confused - you say the sap you collected from trees was 12 degrees Fahrenheit? If the sap was not a solid block of ice, I'm pretty sure that's not possible, unless your trees produce sap with like 20% sugar LOL!

Berkshires, that is a very valid point. The thermometer I was using is a digital one but maybe there's a problem with the display so part of the number didn't show up. For example, maybe the sap was between 32-32.4*F but the 3 showed up like a 1. I didn't give the readings a second thought because the low last night was 19*F and I had a lot of ice in my buckets.

I wish I could get 20% sugar from my trees!

Here's a link to the sap hydrometer temperature correction https://www.rothsugarbush.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Temperature-Correction-Chart-for-Maple-Sap-and-Syrup-Hydrometers.pdf

Sweet! Thanks! Looks like I don't need to make any corrections for sap under 32*F.
