Adding some ceramic insulation to my barrel evaporator. I've read online some use a castable refractory cement to seal and harden the insulation and to prevent it from having small particles break off. I have whole and half bricks but I'd prefer to to cement them in place so I can move the barrel without needing my tractor and forks. What's everyone else done? I figure the bricks will protect the bottom and half way up the sides but not the back. Thoughts?

Usually put the ceramic blanket down first against the evaporator sides, bottom, etc... then the firebrick is placed on top of the ceramic blanket using the refractory cement.

Thank you!
You want your insulation in the firebox area covered up by bricks. Once you get back past the point that firewood is going to hit it, just use insulation.
