I collect in IBC tote on my tractor's pallet forks and a trailer. I have a crew with five gallon buckets go to each tree, empty sap from the Sap Saks, return to the tractor and poor the sap into a tote. I'm thinking of having a SS funnel with a strainer in the "mouth" of each tote.

I'd appreciate hearing from other about their experiences of using a SS funnel and strainer.

Where might I get the SS funnels and strainers?

Look on ebay for used stainless milk strainers.

In the past I’ve cut a hole in the top of the IBC to accept a 5 gallon bucket with many small holes drilled in it. Worked pretty well for gathering.

I used a stainless steel mesh colander set into the top of my collection tank.
Google search will come up with lots of options.
Most have some kind of handle, when they got plugged up, I'd just pull them out and flip the junk out and set back in place. Worked great.

I have used various funnels with fine screen or a piece of prefilter. Milk filters are ideal. I have hung a prefilter cone in my tank and fold it over the cap ridge and secure with a zip tie or wire. Easy to remove and clean or replace. If it gets clogged with ice or debri then just reach in and pull it out inverted and flip off the ice and crud.

CDL Maple sells a prefilter bag that is sized perfectly to fit into the top of an IBC tote. I used one of these and then some 2" PVC to run over to the side of my tote and turned it upwards with a 90 and a 4" to 2" reducer as a "funnel" so I didn't have to reach all the way over the tote.

I'm looking to put a 1" bulkhead into the cap of my IBC and run a short hose off that for pumping into the truck. This way we dont have to climb into the truck. I'm wondering about venting the tank and if the cap will fit on the tank with the filter in it.
