Forecast for the next two weeks in central Ohio makes me think I should already have taps in.
5-6 weeks early by the calendar, hope I'm not missing the boat.

I'll be putting taps out next weekend. Weather looks very favorable over the next 30+ days.

Has anyone put taps in yet? Just seems way too early...but the weather says now is the time. Am I wrong?

Second boil of the year started today. Have around 15 gallons of sap collected. It's finally running again today after not getting above freezing for a week or so.22829

Ended up with 40 ounces of finished syrup, that makes 104 ounces for the season.

Put out 66 taps(on drops to buckets)on Jan. 11th. Within 2 weeks had just under 3.5 gallons of syrup. Was going to pull taps(have other trees to tap later in the season), glad I didn't. The next week's forecast looks good. Collected another 30ish gallons of sap this morning.2284122842

How do you like that little Starcat evaporator?

How do you like that little Starcat evaporator?Loving it so far. Much more efficient than using turkey fryer pots over an open fire. Should have bought one years ago.

Anyone still tapped? We tapped 210 on Feb 13th and have had some incredibly large flows this season (best was 800 gallons in 24 hours on the first week of tapping). We are still making syrup although the sugar is down and flows are starting to slow. The weather this season is some of the best I have experienced in my 6 years of making syrup.

Taps are still out, but today makes 2 months since I put the out. Reds were still flowing ahead of the last snow storm. Silvers have slowed considerably. I'm out of firewood, starting to see mold on bucket lids, I'm cleaning everything up tomorrow and calling it a season. Looking forward to a normal sleep schedule again.
