I'm looking to get your thoughts about tapping sugar maples next to a small creek and weather they would produce lower sugar content because of constant access to water from the creek. Have tapped some before close to a creek that had just over 1% sugar and not sure it was the creek or the trees. Thanks for your thoughts.

Some of my best producers are by a small creek in the woods and they have averaged 2.5%sugar every year. It has a lot to do with many different things what sugar content the tree produces.

Thanks for your thoughts. It's encouraging as I can tap many close to a small creek.

Just remember come spring that water level can come up, so you have to be careful of where you tap, or wear hip boots.
