did CDL change formula of 3/16 tubing?

Curious if anyone has had issues with pressing fittings on new CDL 3/16 tubing? the lastest stuff I have collapses/compresses almost when pressing fittings on and have to redo them. ive never had that problem before. Found some older tubing I had from last year, and there is no issue at all. Id be suprised if I am the only one having this issue? the tubing must not be a rigid because I can use same tools and only have issues with the newest tubing I got this year.

i had the same problem with the last 500' roll i picked up last month. it's really a pain in the butt, so you are not completely alone.

is it possible you got the flex #431610001 instead of the semi rigid #431608221?

I had the same issue and also found that I felt some inside diameters sizes were less than others, which exasperated the problem. It was the semi rigid tubing.

thanks, figured I couldn't be alone, so had to do a sanity check.

semi ridgid for sure. looks like the date code embossed in the tubing is 2/19/22. Wetting the fittings seemed to help greatly, but way more time consuming and a huge pain, and never ever had to do that before using tubing tools!

Unfortunately 3/16 tubing is not going to get the support that 5/16 tubing gets, it always comes down to the money! If there is a planned 2 million tap expansion in Canada, per the federation, that is where the big four will make their money. Probably be lucky if there is 100000 new 3/16 tap expansion going in the whole maple region! I’ve only used CDL 3/16, may have to try another brand. 3/16 tubing is like the savior for West Virginia, elevation, elevation, elevation! But let’s be honest West Virginia will never have the total amount of taps that some counties in Vermont have! Example Franklin County, Vermont, well over 500000 taps.

Yes, but then they may lose 1.8 million taps on Crown Land due to the new diameter restriction of 24 cm (9.4 inches).

Still a sizeable net increase in just a year or two though. I think the U.S. has been adding (on average) about 460,000-470,000 per year since about 2008, with about 300,000 new taps per year of that occurring in VT. Even with all that new production, maple syrup has been moving extremely well in the marketplace.
