Hi all, been a while since my last post here, hope all is well. *

I have an insulated arch door and am thinking of adding a small CNC cut maple leaf in the door with some high heat glass behind it. *My arch is forced AUF and not sure of the inside temperature. *I did find a supplier of Quartz glass that is used up to 2200 degrees. *Just wondering if anyone has done this themselfs. *I know some of the big manufacturers are putting a "peephole" in their evaporator now. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you do decide to complete it, I would like to see some pictures.

I built an arch a few years ago and did the same thing. It was a little 1" round hole. All insulated, AUF and AOF. I also had an auberins probe with a ceramic well connected to a high temp thermometer. The glass cracked 2x before I gave up and plugged the hole up. I was learning more from the temp under the front pan than what I was seeing from the site glass. I even bought the high tempered glass designed for high heat. Just wasn't worth the trouble for me. Amazing how hot it can get under those pans. I also have a temp probe in the base of the stack so I can see how much temp I lose when the fire goes under the pans. I was getting like 1700 to 2000 degrees under the front pan and then the stack would run around 700-900 degrees.

Hope yours works for you... :)

Mica should work. Don't have any idea how to cut it, but it is a mineral and used to be called isenglass, I think (???). Is used in high heat applications. Quartz (not quartz glass) should have worked.

Another thought is saphire (would hate to pay for it), but I used saphire in steam tubes under 250 PSI/407 deg. F as a sight glass. That's where I used the quartz lens also.
