Been a cold past week or two with temps hardly into the 50s here in Canaan Valley, and the first hard frost/freeze last night. One official station in the wildlife refuge run by VA Tech university recorded 22.9F early this morning.

This weekend more 20's are expected in the overnights. Should I tap yet?! :P :lol:

From the local weather guy/geek. Already hearing the old timers say its gonna be a big snowy late fall here :o They always have called canaan valley, wv "a bit of canada gone astray"

This Sunday morning's low temperature of 16.6 ° F recorded at the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge VA Tech weather station (maintained by instructor David Carroll) in the northern wild end of the Valley was the lowest temperature reported in the lower 48 states as of 8 am EDST according the the National Weather Service's Weather Prediction Center. This is the 3rd consecutive morning Canaan Valley has reported the lowest temperature in at least the Eastern States or all the way to the Rockies.

Ironically, Canaan Valley is located only 125 air miles directly west of Washington Reagan-National Airport, one of the warmest locations in the entire region.

I continue to watch for the potential first snowfall of the season later this week or early the following week. Will update you on this situation by Wednesday
