I am replacing my membrane with a filmtec xle 4-4040
The accelerated start up manual says for a dry membrane
Flush with feed water at 22-40 gpm for 10-15 min using the booster pump.
Soak in 1.2 percent sodium metabisulfite for 10-14 days
Start up within 2 days of soaking flush with ro water for 60 min. at 22-40 gpm

Is the 10-14 days soak a miss print?
Should it be 10-14 hours?

These instructions are for maple use?
I would not use preservative on a new membrane. No need for that if using right away. And I wouldn’t install a new membrane before storing for off season. I have always tried to at least soak them overnight before using preferably in permeate.

we are 1 week into our season here and my 4 year old membrane is reduced production from new by 50 percent. I have done 2 cleaning cycles of soap and acid and no improvement.
I need the new membrane to keep up with the sap.
The instructions are the only start up instructions i could find for the flimtec membranes.

Well with the sap gushing here i don't have 10 days to prep a membrane. I soaked the membrane for 24 hours in permeate then ran 100 gallons of permenate through it. i ran the first 50 gallons with the feeder pump at 30 psi then with the high pressure pump at 90 psi. the membrane performed really good at processing sap, made 7 gallons syrup yesterday.
