What's the best bit and source?

I don't know about best, but over the years I used many brands, The last few years I used DSD, I really liked them. Look up DSD Stars, open their catalog and scroll down, you will find all dealers who carry them. I always bought them from Dave Sawn, Homestead Maple, Chazy, NY, but he's only 1 of a large number of dealers.

What's the best bit and source?

I bought the one they sell at Bascoms in Alstead for $18. The one they recommend for 5/16th. It seemed rather magical to me at tap time this year.

I tried the Lapierre brand this year and was VERY pleased with its performance. I had seen an earlier thread where Dr. Perkins had mentioned that they used them and it happened that I had bought that brand from a MI supplier (Mazurek Maple) earlier in the year. So far it is the best brand I have used.
