Hey All,

Seems I'm out of Sodium Hydroxide and will need to wash in the next few days.
Can I do an acid wash instead of the NAOH to maintain performance until I get the new shipment of NaOH?
Many Thanks,
Bryan

An acid wash should always be performed after a soap NAOH wash.
The soap wash will remove organic matters , and the acid will remove mineral deposit.
Performing an acid wash without removing organic matter may damage the membrane
by precipitating organic matter because of the the low pH of the acid.

Did you try Amazon?

Yes, but with delivery on the 7th.
I'm hopeful it will arrive a bit earlier.
Time to dig through the back basement random supplies to see what I can find.

This is all correct. Soap wash first. Then rinse. Then an acid wash (if needed...typically it isn't...most seasons we never have to acid wash). Final rinse.

That's interesting. The end-of-year procedure for a Deer Run RO is soap wash, acid wash, soap wash (with rinses, of course). Then a soap wash and rinse before starting the season.

Found some old NaOH from sigma, that I used to use in the lab.
It worked well and things are back to normal and waiting for the next run.
I should have the new batch next week if Amazon is on time.
Thanks all.
