I have competed the soda keg conversion for syrup storage. Instructions and pictures on how I did are listed below.
1. Remove both dip tubes.
2. While gas input and liquid out ports are removed, remove pressure valve insert. Weld closed the top hole on the gas input and liquid output ports.
3. Use teflon tape on the thread of the gas and liquid ports and reinstall the ports.
4. Remove locking center cap and o-ring.
5. Weld a 3/8 x 16 x2 1/2" stainless bolt exactly in the center (center from side to side and the longest oval point).
6. With top removed, remove vent release valve. Weld closed the opening or braze closed with aluminum brazing rods. If brazing, fill from the top while it is resting on a fender washer below to keep the aluminum from going out the bottom side of the hole.
7. Using a 9" or 10" piece of 1/4" x 1" locate the center length and width point and drill a hole to accommodate the 3/8 bolt.
8. Replace lid and lock in place.
8. Place and tighten for seal.
**Note: Remove all o-rings prior to heating and welding.
You can use angle iron in replacement of the 1/4 x 1" flat stock. It will be more rigid.
