to lift sap 40 ft in elevation and 400+ ft distance?

To lift or to push? Gas powered or electric? If you're trying to lift it 40 ft a deep well jet pump may work for you. The trouble would be priming the pump..

How fast? I use a Delavan 5gpm 12 volt diaphragm pump to pump 550' of 1/2" hose up 55' in elevation. Pumps at about half the pump rating. Mine is automated so I don't have to wait around for it.

i'd be emptying 50+ gallons at a pump

what happens when the barrel is empty but the line is still full of sap?

Do you operate it with a float switch? I'm having a hard time finding a DC float switch.
