View Full Version : All new, or use some old cinder blocks as well

Today I poured the concrete base for the evaporator. The base is to protect the roots below and also raises up the evaporator 5.5”. I will put a metal plate on the base that will cover 90% of it, to help protect it, then cover everything with 3” of sand.

I have some used cinder blocks. Some fairly new and some that are less than new. If it was you, would you use the old cinder blocks, as well as some new ones, or go with all new ones?

I believe it will be okay to use both. You realize that with the amount of heat you are going to create that they will crack. Some of the producers that have built these type of evaporators have lined the inside with firebrick. They help hold in the heat.
