Alright, I have a question for someone that knows more than I.... We "upgraded" our arch this year to an older 3x12 Hurricane Force 5. Well thats what it was sold as anyways... We are having trouble with smoke coming out from between the rail that the pans sit on and the sheet metal sides. I am wondering a few things. One is how are people sealing this better? I am thinking it is just possible that i didn't to a good enough job fire bricking. Also currious as to what the pressure in the fire box should be? We have been having to damper the fan down so there is zero to negative draft to keep the smoke our the the sugarhouse. When i say damper we are choking off 3/4 of the air flow.

So i guess to those smarter than I,

Is the reason for the smoke coming out of the sugar house poor insulating/fire-bricking or too much air?

I would guess that you have too much air pressure in the box. Turn down the fan, check for chimney restriction (do you have any elbows?), etc.

I have just about 20' of straight smoke stack on it including the base stack piece

Do you have a pan gasket between the rails and the bottom of the pan?
