A local sugarmaker has a 5" hand pump filter press that he's having a hard time finding papers for. The 7" and 10" are more readily available. Dominion Grimm used to make a 5" press but their catalogs are hard to get ahold of. Any ideas?

Father & Son, Just looked in the new Dominion & Grimm book and it only list 7" and 10" filter papers! I will look in the Bascoms book for you! They are just down the road a few miles from us. Maplemaker.

You need the holes on each side at the bottom.

Father & Son, Just looked in Bascoms catalog and it just shows the 7" & 10" as well ! I wonder if you could take a 7" or 10" and repunch holes on one of the other sides and then trim the rest off to fit the five inch hand press? I know it will cost more, but at least you could us the filter press!! Sorry I was'nt more help. Maplemaker

Maplemaker,
Thanks for looking. He also thought of trimming and re-punching larger papers to make them fit but has been trying to find the right size first. We thought someone else might have a 5" press and knew where to buy some.
Thanks again,
Jim

If you do try retro-fitting, I suggest you try cutting 10" into quarters and punching if that would work, no waste and each might give 4 filters.

I'd like to find some 5" papers too! It looks like we may have to start making them though.

I thought I had posted this but I can see it.
I was at Uncle Richard's Maple last week. He is a producer and small equipment dealer.
He had some 5" on the shelf

Hey, Mapleguys and Bascom's don't have these papers.
I called Uncle Richards and they had a die made to cut these 5" papers, so they will hopefully have them for a while.
To my knowledge, they are the only ones that now carry these.
Anyway, ordered two boxes.

Thank you. I posted here that he had some on the shelf. Several of you called him. He got all excited and ordered a new batch made. When I was there a couple days ago he was a little p****d because after all the calls, nobody had ordered any.... and he was sort of blaming me !!!!

And when you get them take and open the top of the entire box of filters with the holes on the bottom and mark the tops with a sharpie. Add a couple stipes down the whole stack and you wont install a few upside down. Not that its ever happend to me.
