View Full Version : Steam Hood Efficiency Question
Does anyone know if there is any study’s about steam hoods without a preheater in them, and wether it makes the flue pan boil harder and more efficient? If you put a pot of water on the stove and cover it, it will boil quicker, and harder than uncovered. So I am wondering if the same would apply to a hood over a glue pan. I know that there are studies about how much a preheater can add.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The lid on the pot over the stove makes sense. Not sure if the large hood with a 10 or 12" steam stack going out the roof would have nearly the same effect. It would certainly help keep some heat in if it was sitting tight on the flue pan but i don't think it would increase your boil efficiency more than a few %. With my 2x6 flat pan i would be interested in any increase in % at all.
