I'm putting together an RO from parts I've gathered in my plan is to for this year anyways run the RO a couple times throughout the week because I don't have bulk tanks just 5 gallon buckets. My question is how often do I need to rinse or flush the RO system with clean water? I thought that I've read that the pre-filter also needs changed every time you run the system? I'm using a five micron pre-filter and 8800 series pump and four 100 gallon per day membranes...
Mostly depends on the time in the season and what the sap is like. For us we pre-rinse/soap wash/post-rinse every time it is used. We also change the pre-filters every time. This both helps the flow rates and makes sure the soap is not getting diluted with sap still in the pre-filters.
Hope this helps.

Well with how small my process is I can't imagine doing all that every day when I'm only running a 5 gallon bucket or 2 per day? ( As for now I haven't even used it once)so until I would get Atleast 15 gallons per day I don't see using an ro for syrup being likely...
I will most likely just use it for my house water( single faucet for coffee unless my trees blow up with sap)

I would wash it with permeate water using a clean filter after each use. After that it will be fine to leave it for up to a week stored in a cool (but not freezing) area. Supposedly you can save the old filter in the fridge and reuse it later. Swap out the sap filter and rinse filter each time.

Same here. I will have <10 taps on 4-5 trees, just for myself and family. Only have 4 taps at the moment, as I’ve been out of town a bit for work.
I just plan on rinsing with 5 gallons of permeate or non-chlorinated water... will probably use a charcoal filter to remove chlorine (or just let water sit out 3-4 days to allow chlorine to evaporate). Then i will keep them in the fridge submerged in permeate or non-chlorinated water.
I have a hard time throwing the 5 micron particulate filter away too if I’m only running 10-20 gal of sap through it. So i will probably keep that in the fridge too after rinsing as well. These are good for 200 gal sap reportedly. The problem with storing them is bacterial growth. So probably don’t want to keep for much longer than 1-2 weeks.
