I bought a used Leader Micro 2 RO this season that was only used for one season prior to me. I did a rinse, wash with RO soap PH 10-12 and a second rinse. Sap has been slow so far but I had 120 gallons to run through it yesterday. I ran it through only once , the sap was 1.6 % going in and came out at 2.8 and 75 gallons of concentrate. My question to someone that has one is what pressure are you running on membranes? I had the valve almost 3/4 closed and pressure was 160. Do I close that valve more until I get closer to 200 or is this normal for a first pass?
Thanks for your help.

You should be getting close to 8% on your first run.

Max pressure on that machine is 220 psi. Tighten it up a bit and your permeate flow will go up and concentrate flow will go down while the Brix goes up.

I have a new micro 2 this year and I've been running mine around 190psi and get a little over 6% on one pass. I know I can go to 8%, but the flows go down quite a bit.

After reading the manual for the 3rd time, LOL, I realized that I started with the valve open all the way instead of half, like a rinse cycle. This week I should get a good run so I'll try it the right way. Thanks for your help. I'll advise how it goes next time.

UPDATE:
I ran 250 gallons through one pass at 190 psi and went from 1.7 to 8%. 100 gallons of concentrate and 150 of permeate with 0 sugar in permeate. Very pleased with todays results. Thanks again

I just ran 1.7 % sap through and went to 8% on 1 pass.

With those numbers you should have gone from 1.7% to 4.25% if you have 100 gallons of concentrate out of 250 gallons of sap. I think my math is correct as if you had 125 gallons of concentrate you would have doubled to 3.4%.

If you started with 250, you should have ended with 75gal concentrate and 175gal permeate, if you went from 2% to 8%. if you started 1.7%, you should even less concentrate. Either way, glad to hear you got it sorted out.

On my Micro1 I ran the pressure at 200 psi for the first hour to get enough in the head tank to start the evap. That turned 1.5 % sap into 4%. Then I put the pressure up to 210 psi to get 5% concentrate at a flow rate of .7 gpm with premate at 1gpm. This kept pace with the eavp for the entire 1000 gal of sap to be processed. Was surprise that the desugar process only took about 5 minutes to be completed with that amount sap processed.

You may want to add the second membrane if you are processing that much. I can go from 2% to 6% in one pass with about 1gpm on the concentrate and 2.5gpm on the permeate. She will process to 8% in one pass, but I'm not happy with flows. Although I did process around 200 gal sap today to 8% in one pass. I also run my desugar much longer than needed, because that seems kinda free as you are still making permeate.

That was our first time running the RO. We did talk about adding another membrane. Our normal amounts to process is about 500 gals but for this first run we had to wait until the tanks thawed out some. At the end of the day when running the desugar process our premate tank was full and we were dumping the premate.
