16 year old helpers make great line checkers because they have more energy and better hearing!

Young grand-kids are pretty good to in the hearing dept...but by the time they hit 16 the hearing can get pretty "selective"

Checking for vacuum leaks is a visual thing for me. I look at how the sap is flowing in the lateral lines. If it's moving very slowly or not at all there's no leaks on that line. If all of your laterals look good check the manifolds and mainline connections. A spray bottle with water in it works good for this. A manifold or mainline connection leak will whistle as it sucks the water in. Another visual aid is ice inside the tubing or around manifolds and mainline connections. If people hunt in your woods it's possible that you could have some gunshot holes in your mainlines. I had a section of mainline that had birdshot holes in it. That section of pipe was covered with frost and that's how I found it. I looked for that leak for 2 or 3 years before I found it!

I have a CDL leak detector. I guess they don't carry them any more. I'll sell it for $150 + shipping, let me know if you're interested.
Back shortly after I bought it I found a few other options on a web search. I think they were "vacuum leak detectors or finders". My CDL detector works fine, I just quit tapping this season. Some of the others were lower priced, I paid $200 a few years ago. It even finds leaks near the vacuum pump while it's running full bore.

This might be an option, and not too expensive https://www.amazon.com/Lisle-52750-Stethoscope-Kit/dp/B0015DLMOO/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=stethoscope+vacuum+detectors&qid=1614337774&sr=8-3

I was wondering if anyone has trained their dog to find leaks.

I don't think I would have the patience for that.

I usually just walk down the mainlines and look at the loop of tubing where it goes into the saddles. You can then tell if there is a leak on that line by watching what the sap is doing
