View Full Version : Bricking Mason 2x3XL with full bricks

Is there any downside to bricking a Mason evaporator with full thickness bricks. I had someone pick up fire brick for me and they got the full thickness bricks instead of split bricks despite it being written down:cry:. Debating just using them whole VS splitting enough in half to use for the arch. I know I'll lose some space in the fire box and it'll be heavy. It's already lines with ceramic blanket as well.

For most of the arch it doesn't matter (aside from weight and space, as you say). But I would consider picking up enough to do the top row (against the rim) in half bricks. Otherwise you're going to be blocking a lot of heat to the bottom of your pan around the edges. Even with half bricks I still cut them at an angle around the top edge. Like this:
