Hi to all -- this is my third season. This year I built a shack and picked up a Smoky Lake Dauntless 2x4. It's a long step up from boiling over a grate with some cinder blocks (year 1) and on hotel pans outside over a barrel stove (year 2). I'll be up to 60 taps or so. I'm in Danbury. Started lurking on this page every so often last year and figured it was time to throw my hat in the ring. Looks like it will be early March before any taps go in this year for me!

Welcome aboard fellow NH sugar maker. Congrats on the upgrades. The shack and 2x4 set up will get you even more hooked on the hobby.

Welcome River Bluff,
You will definitely enjoy boiling in your sugar house and your new evaporator will be a big step up from the hotel pans. Have a good time boiling and feeding the fire.

Thanks to all. I'll try to throw up some shots of a new guy trying to build a serviceable shack for everyone's amusement.

Welcome River Bluff Farm! Third year of the hobby stuff for me as well down here in Hudson NH. Have 1100 taps in Vermont but its no fun! Looks like at least two weeks out before I tap here I would say. Nice thing with a small operation is that in a day we can be up and running. Trying some 3/16 tubing this year. Going for 50 taps or so. I try to limit myself to that but may sneak in a few more. Good luck on your season. Solid 14 inches on the ground here. Last two years I tapped around the 24 of Feb so really we are right on schedule. Enjoy that new shack!
