When should I tap this year?

I have options of open yard type silvers/ sugars/reds and also mature maple woods...
I need to make more syrup for our family usage only( can be 10 taps up to 60 or more but my only problem is finding time to deal with collection if I do more than just my yard trees)

And my evaporator is large so it needs a decent amount to keep it rolling in the pan.
I'm tempted to just tap my yard trees soon and evaporate on my turkey fryer just so I can keep up with it with working my job 40hours...

Tap when you see plenty of upper 30 degree days in the forecast. Sap won't flow when the temps are just hovering around freezing.

yep, still a bit cold. i have a couple trees tapped just to see when they'll run and have had about two days of good sap so far in the last three weeks. the next week still looking cold, so hoping the week after we'll get the right temps.

I'm in central and we had temps in the teens the last week. I put in a tap when it was still cold and was told it was already running a little. If you are tapping a silver maple, do it ASAP. One false spring will put buds on and your tap is done.

Can’t believe im going to say this, but here it goes, Fred is riiiig, not wrong  im on 98.2% reds and only half of my woods is really thawed. Looking at the forecast we have several weeks of good weather.

I'm realizing that now that I've tapped a few more some are just barely starting to run on the bigger trees that are thawing out slower, thanks

I say late b/c I have one silver maple in our yard that always looks like it has buds starting early! ( Possibly a norway maple?) I need pics of what I'm talking about)- i need to take pictures with a drone😜

Reds and silvers always have swollen flower buds this time of year, they are not leaf buds. I tapped my office yard trees in Toledo today. Glad I waited, it was over 60 here yesterday. I will tap my little woods across the border tomorrow morning. Hope we don't continue to get those 2-3 days straight of too warm temps throughout March.
