I am building an electric releaser and don't know what size pump I need to pump the sap out under vacuum.
I have a 1/3 HP submersible sump but that won't overcome the vacuum and minimal head of 4 feet. Without vacuum on the releaser the pump works fine.
Any Help is greatly appreciated.

Are you using a high head submersible well pump?

No, I have a standard sump pump.

I'm not surprised that it doesn't have the capacity to overtake the vacuum. My 1/2 hp extractor pump is rated for 175 feet of head.

You will need a pump capable of ~33 feet of head to overcome high vacuum plus the 4 feet you are pumping up. Most sump pumps are designed to pump out of an 8 foot basement and on the ground so likely 15 or 20 feet of head max. A deep well pump is what most people use or something that will produce more than 40 or 50 feet of head to be safe. Quality pumps will give you a rating and pump curve to follow.

Ken,
Do you have a make and model on the pump?

When I was building my extractor I found this site to have a lot of useful information. https://www.aquascience.net/products/pumps-tanks-well-components/submersible-pumps
