I had a source for used food grade totes that were previously used for apple juice. That source no longer has any. Does anyone know of a source of used 275-gallon totes in the south central Pennsylvania area? Unfortunately, I'm only looking for one but I am willing to drive an hour or two one way to pick it up (even longer if I have to). It must be food grade and hopefully used to store a food product that won't lend off-flavors to the sap (though it will be thoroughly cleaned before use). Thanks.

There is a guy from Somerset on craigslist that has food grade totes for sale or if you have amish around you , check with their local supply shops or harness shops. Check what was in it before and also check the valve so that you get one with npt pipe threads on it. I was using ferncos on some of mine and the inspector said they were not food grade. Just paid 30.00 bucks for a fitting to go from buttress to npt. Ron

Thanks Ron. Somerset's not that far away (I'm in Mercersburg - Franklin County). We do have a strong Amish presence up Path Valley and over the mountain in Perry County where we tap and make syrup. In fact, the Amish make and sell maple syrup a lot in this area. I'm curious, why would the Amish shops be a good source for these? The Amish would be a lot closer than Somerset if I can find one that way. Thanks again.

Not sure why, must be a demand for them among the amish, just know i've seen them at the harness shops for the same or less money than craigslist.

I have a place near Cabelas in Hamburg Pa. Not sure how far away from you that is. They had Corn Syrup in them. If you are interested. I got a couple of them a month ago, he should still have some. Rick
