Anyone with experience running 3” dryline? Wondering if 12.5 gauge high tensile wire will support the weight or if anyone is running different wire or cable size. I have 1500ft to run to get the correct CFM’s to the back woods.

Thanks

Just run two 12.5 gauge wires on separate tensioners and anchors. It works just fine.

12.5 ga seems light. That 3" pipe will be very heavy - I'd go with 1/4" braided cable if I was installing it.

It seems I saw a piece showing Glen Goodrich's new Eden bush where he used 1/4" or even 3/8" guy cable, anchored into huge bolders.

I think it depends how you're installing it, but as said above, you might be able to do double 12.5 ga, or more preferable double 9ga, and post the mainline every 10-20 feet if it's truly a dryline. would be good to have a slightly oversize wet line for that section so it stays dry, as Dave said above it will be heavy with liquid (i believe Glenn said 8 lbs per foot in his video) but with good posts and/or short runs (200 ft between ratchets) its doable. if its a long term installation you would probably be happier with cable though.

I may be mistaken, but I think when Glen did it, he anchored to huge boulders or bedrock outcroppings then got the elevation using very sturdy posts.

here's the video showing the three inch line and wire used.

Wow that's crazy, never seen pipe that big

Yeah I wouldn't want to be the guy trying to pull that pipe through the woods!

For reference - we have a 2" vacuum line that runs 2000' to a remote mechanical releaser. We put it on #9 high tensile wire and I regret not using 1/4" braided cable - we simply can't get the #9 tight enough and keep it tight. When something falls on it we have to spend a fair bit of time re-tensioning and taking out the slack. We just installed 4000' of 1.5" pipe to pump 75% of our taps back to the camp and we put it on 1/4" cable and it's singing tight.
