I run a bb4 pump with a hobby releaser and 2 moisture traps between them. i don't have a vacuum regulator and am wondering if i should put one in. if my releaser fails me and my moisture trap fills up, stopping the air flow, will my pump overheat and be damaged? is a vacuum regulator the correct application in that instance? and if i need one, what kind/where do you get one and where does it go in the pump/releaser system?

I used this https://www.partsdeptonline.com/VACUUM-REGULATOR-VALVE-3_4/productinfo/45270/ for a delaval 73 to regulate at 20" Seemed to work fine and price was reasonable. I had it installed between the moisture trap and pump. I am not familiar with a BB4 but most dairy pumps are designed to run at 15 so get pretty hot above this. Many people run them higher though. I had an extra oil cooler and the pump just sounded best at 20", at the time I did not want to kill the pump.

I think the regulator rattled apart once so you may want to check it occasionally.
