I tried it once, but kept tripping over the cord...

This was my first year running tubing. I have the shurflo setup. I did tap with vacuum on. It seemed ok to do.

Any particular reason you would want to tap with vacuum on?

If all your spouts are on its a good way to find leaks.

I agree. I put all the taps into the cup on the tee when tub washing is done after the season. So when I tap the vac is on. Its way easier to find leaks and you can fix them right away while you are there. I carry a pail with an assortment of fittings and extra batteries around as I tap just in case.
