I'm building a new hood for my new/used 3x10. I've got the old 10" steam stack from the hood I had on my 30x8 - is the 10" big enough to use on the 3x10?

I'm building a single hood to cover the entire 3x10.

Danno,

I'm in the process of building a hood for my 2.5x6'. Mine will be one hood with two separate section's- one for the front pan and one for the flue pan.

Will your's be divided like that? What size is your flue pan and syrup pan? The reason I ask is the Leader Catalog give's stack sizes with their hood's. Their hood's come with two stack's.

From the catalog: 3'x3'-3'x5' pan's-8" stack, 3'x6' and 3'x7' pan's- 10" stack.

I don't know what size you would want to go with if you were going to have both pan's vent through one stack.

Leader's stack's go from 6" up to 18" diameter's in 2" increment's.

Hope this help's.

Steve

I'm not proud, I'm copying westvirgina's design found in his pics. One large hood with a baffle inbetween. Basically, one hood, two compartments. Tieing the stack above the syrup pan into the main stack that will come out of the sap pan.

Danno,

If your hood is like mine, I would recommend you to go with a 12" to 16" stack due to the fact that the front hood is suspended and it is pulling cold air along with the steam, so the stack needs to be larger for that size evaporator to pull the steam. I would go with 16" for the best results in my opinion. I run my hood with the rear damper over the flue pan 1/2 closed.

Brandon -

hum. Maybe I will run two seperate steam stacks - one for syrup pan, one for flue instead of T'ing them together. Any thoughts?

Danno,
I have two steam stacks on my 3x12. one on the flue pan and one on r=the syrup pan. they are 10" and work very well.

Danno,

I think you would be happier with that and you could go with 2 smaller stacks.
