Hi all... hope everybody had or is having a good sugaring season. Ours ended a little early here in western NY, but since it was my first year with my new sugar shack and Mason 2x3 evaporator, I had fun just the same.

Anywho... When I was building my shack I searched Maple Trader for all the tidbits of ideas I could find...and I found a lot of good info, but it took me quite a bit of time to piece it all together. I decided to put together a write up on my 16'x24' build on a hobby blog site I run with some of my relatives. Thought it might be handy for anybody that is thinking of building their own sugar shack.

Here's part I: https://www.relativelyrandom.com/2020/03/building-a-sugar-shack-rationalization-to-rafters/

Here's part II: https://www.relativelyrandom.com/2020/04/building-a-sugar-shack-siding-to-syrup/

Enjoy...

Fantastic work - and plenty of room to expand! That little closet you tucked in there will be your RO room. By the way, your dad's advice was right on.

That shack is really quite the build! I'm inspired to start on my shack addition ASAP, all things considered. I already started excavation for the slab. I've been looking at the same VUM document, but since I'm extending my existing barn, the layout and style will vary. I hope to do half as good a job documenting the build as you did.

This is an astounding pair of write-ups! Thank you for taking the valuable time to do that. Saving this as I've wanted to build something similar and may be stuck with more time at home all year than expected :)

Thanks for the post and the blog. I'm planning on doing the same type of construction this spring but have never built something like that, either, so appreciate the pictures. I've got some holes in the ground and 2 posts in last fall, and of course they aren't completely square with each other :-) But, the concrete is hard, so I guess I will press on from here.

Excellent build and everything looks to be extremely well thought out. Now all you need to do is find more trees to tap!
