Power washer

Hi Everyone,
I'm cleaning up, as my season is over, and was wondering if a power washer, possibly at the local car was, would remove the soot build up on the bottom of my pan. I thought if I could blast it off there I could bring it home and do the finish cleaning here. Any thoughts or experiance? Thanks, ted

Oven cleaner on the underside (not inside) of your pan will save you a trip to the car wash.

Yes it will work, but I would say do it with caution, Don't use any harsh chemicals of acids to remove it. If you do be sure to neutralize them afterwards. Some pans are made using cheaper grades of stainless steel, they have higher iron content and water mixed with the soot no allowed to dry can cause them to eventually rust out and leak. Also you might want to check with the carwash before you get into trouble taking it there.

On a nice hot sunny day I clean mine with my pressure washer and let the sun dry it good before I put it away.

We spray the soot off our front pans with the pressure washer every day. I've never used any type of cleaner, soap or acid on them and I can still get down to bare metal on some of the pan.AS long as you get the loose soot off them that significantly helps with the heat transfer.

Any caked on soot that you can not get to come off with water, take a piece of copper pipe with one end flattened and scrape the soot off. If it the soot is hardened on, it will scrape right off with the copper scraper.

The power washer (car wash) worked great! It took off the dry soot which made cleaning with grill cleaner a breeze, took less time and was no where near the usual mess. No mess in the car wash either! Thanks everyone, ted
