I worked at putting the ro to sleep for the season. I have meticulously rinsed and washed between boils. I soap washed, rinsed, acid washed, rinsed, soap washed, rinsed ALOT till out of permeate.
I went to store the membrane and when I pulled it out it STANK A NASTY STINK. Thick slime n all. Hot water to the vessel chamber for 20 min and I still could smell it a little. I put the storage solution in that as well.
This normal? I can't remember every detail from one year to the next with all the business and commotion.

Yuck, that’s unfortunate. Did you wash and rinse with the concentrate restriction valve fully open?

Yea. The last rinse had close to 300 gallon to it. It all seemed settled to the lower part of the membrane and vessel. Thick like snot.

A 300 gallon rinse is a long rinse. There shouldn't have been that snot in your vessel. If your valve was wide open during all your washes and rinses, it should have flushed everything out. How much time passed between your final wash/rinse and pulling the membrane out? If it is days, that would explain it.

Give it another soap wash and then pull the membrane and take a look?

Soap wash sunday. Acid Monday. Soap and long rinse tuesday. The longest it ever sat was maybe a day without a rinse or wash after running sap. That was at a busy point and just couldn't do it all. That was close to the middle/end of season but certainly not the very end.

I had the same problem couple years ago not real sure what caused it but i think sap leaked past the U ring on the concentrate end of membrane
