Homebuilt ro. Procon 660 with 2 4x40 membranes. I did 95% of my plumbing in ss pipe so I have alot of fittings and thread connections. Almost all of them have a tiny pinhole water leak at pressure. I used teflon tape and no doubt probably too many wraps which didnt get down in the threads. But rather worked it up the threads as I tightened. Im Going to pick up some brush on thread sealant and redo all the connections tonight. Question is do I brush on a little sealant, wrap tape, and then sealant on top of that ? Or just use the liquid brush on stuff? I have a hard time trusting just the liquid brush on sealant by itself. Says it doesnt harden . Blue Monster is the brand of liquid brush on thread sealant.

21128I used a ton of stainless fittings on my RO as well. What saved my life was not using the regular cheap Teflon. I bought the stainless grey tape. And when wrapping it on it needs to be held tight and basically pulled into the fittings threads, or it will get pushed off with the threads and fittings will seize making it feel like they are tight. I used tape first then stainless pipe dope that I got from a plumber at work. But I’m sure it dosnt matter What order they go on. All both do is provide lube so fittings don’t seize and gall. Stainless fittings will seize sometimes after 2 turns.
Another great invention is an interior pipe wrench or nipple wrench. They go inside the fitting and expand and you can really get the fittings tight.
Also works to take threaded nipples out if need be.

On SS fittings I get good results using high grade teflon tape, the cheapo tape is junk. I however have never tried the grey tape.

Yup I had used the cheap white tape. Never again. I now used the thicker tape and dope on top of the tape. What a difference.

Stainless on stainless can be tough both pieces of connection are very hard. That's why they used to make high pressure hoses with brass ends, the brass is softer and forms to the other thread to make a seal. Just had this issue this year. There is a brand of Teflon used blue monster it's great stuff. Also use some silicone on the threads, it's what the professionals at Dominion and Grimm do that's a fact just got mine back this year!
