Thinking about purchasing a steam away to go on my 30x10. Any thoughts on whether to keep my preheater or not?

I would say sell the preheater, you won’t need it. Sap comes out of our steam away at a constant 190-195 degrees. With the steam away now boiling 350+ gallons per hour. You will want a devoted tank to catch the distillate coming off it for cleaning up,usually 100 or more gallons per hour

I would say that the selling decision would depend upon wether you can get enough for it to justify selling. If you feel like you are loosing too much money on the preheater by selling it, than just keep it and use it. It will add some to your boiling rate, just not a lot.

I had a preheater in place above the steamaway for years. Was told I didnt need it. But I used it. This year I left it out, cold sap going in, coming out at 190F. Looks to be gaining at least a full 1% on raw sap going in. So with this test I would say no, you wont see much difference.
I think I will sell the preheater if someone needs one.
You should really look at RE.O.s that are the work horse now.
