We're going to have out first boil today.
The sugar is 2.8 off the road and 2.4 in the woods. We over 2600 gallons of sap yesterday. A great start to the season.

I think I had my last boil last night down a the Ohio state line. Sap looked better than I expected. The syrup tasted great but very dark and wanted to foam up pretty good. If I had sugar maples and the weather looked better I might keep going but its time to clean up. Sap ran good this year but the sugar content was down. The warm weather in southern Michigan didn't help either. Good luck to those further north that are still going.

Today will be our last boil in the mid Michigan area. Our trees are 98% hard maple and they have pretty well shut down. The warm weather didnt help at all.Just goes to show Mother Nature is always in control.
