New to using plastic but curious if there is a limit to bottling temp to not get an off flavor?
I've read about the heat resistance of hdpe (#2) being pretty high, but is there max you dont want to bottle above? Even at 190, I smell the paint on the outside of the bottles which is slightly unsettling. I know it's just the paint, and will taste a bottle myself soon, but wondering if I am worrying too much. Since i run the finished syrup right into the filter canner, it could very well be 200 or a little above going into the bottle.

Maple syrup containers both plastic and glass with decorations are made to handle syrup at 190F or a little above. Don't worry if you are using a container made to pack maple syrup in.
