Value of stainless tanks

I have an opportunity to buy the following stainless dairy tanks for sap storage:

500 gallon
1000 gallon

Would anyone know what a decent price for them would be (Canadian $'s)

A general rule is $1 per gallon of capacity. But given this time of the season that may go up.

I just bought 1 the other day for 1 dollar a gallon, storage / non cooling. I have payed more if the tank fits a certain purpose.

In the US, $1/gal is the norm, for private sales if the tank is in good shape and has the cover(s). If a tank is a vacuum tank it can go as high as $2/gal (US). From a dealer it often goes for more. Also, a working tank goes for lots more with the agitator and compressor.

A dollar a gallon has been pretty standard for used. Finally starting last year I see a decent amount of used tanks for sale and the price is coming down as people get more seasons on them and their money's worth they part with them cheaper, vs someone who bought one last year and is upgrading already this year- they will want top dollar. There's one on Craigslist right now 1500 gal for 1200.00

Don't forget - if the used market is reasonably priced, new market is likely down too. New SStanks are a great value over used since you can spec out the size and dimensions for your specific needs. Working with equipment that is less than optimum will increase your headaches and reduce your overall profit. At that point you'll figure out that an extra 20 cents per gallon for new would have been a bargain.

I think it's considerably more than an extra 20 cents a gallon for new, more like 50-60 cents isn't it? But yes- like anything to do with maple, best to oversize for your needs and think ahead a little.

If you can get them for $1/gallon that's a steal. If they are Zero tanks and hold vacuum I'd ask $2/gallon if selling and would be offering $1.50/gallon if buying.

I purchased a brand new 2000 last year and a 3000 gallon this year. Both were set up just as i wanted and for a whole lot less than you're assuming.

I'll bite on this one a little. I purchased a 1450 gallon CDL tank this season for 1900.00 it was 5x10x5 roughly in size.
Also purchased a LaPierre Tank for that is 1580 gallons for 2100.00, that one is 5x12x50" so yes Ken is on the Money, you can in a way over pay for Dairy tanks if your not careful, if you want a covered tank that you have to get inside to clean than bulk tanks are great, also they are insulated which is a bonus. But when you start going up in size the bulk tanks are not necessarily cheaper than a made for Maple sap tank.

I Personally am getting away from Bulk Dairy Tanks because of the Hassle to clean them probably. I did keep one 1000 gallon for permeate.

The point of my original post is that specifying the tank to your sugaring operations rather than adjusting the operations to the tank will bring even greater value. And, you might find that the price isn't as bad as you expect. As a minimum, one should check with their dealer on a tank quote before purchasing a used tank. Doing so allows you to better appreciate the "value" of a used tank and to evaluate whether the new tank makes sense.

So for N8Hutch's purchases the cost per gallon was $1.31/gal and $1.33/gal. I'm not going to reveal my pricing online but I did even better which is expected for larger tanks.

Only if your shopping at leader!! I was amazed at the open house prices at lapierre and d&g. 1-1.50 a gallon new!!
Had 1500s for 1800$....if your paying over 2$ you'd better shop around because you'll save a few bucks
