My buddy and I ran one new line and extended three others on Saturday (2/1) while my wife and daught worked in the sugar shack cleaning up. We also replaced out last 5/16 line with 3/16. Sunday morning I spent skidding out most of the dead ash trees that had fallen on lines over the past year. My wife and daughter continued cleaning in the shack. In the afternoon my buddy arrived and we tapped all the existing 3/16 lines. In my Bascom's order this year, I forgot to add my tees to my cart (Doh!) so I don't have any drops made up for the replaced 3/16 line, the new line, or for the extensions we made to existing lines! I should get them this week and by next weekend we should be completely tapped.

Nice! Looks like it should be a decent run this week. I'm a bit west of you, but I think at roughly the same elevation (800') so probably around the same season. I plan to tap next weekend. It's early for me, especially since I'm all on buckets, but the long-term forecast looks warm, so I just need to jump on it and hope for the best.

Cheers,

Gabe

I'm just south of Greenfield and a buddy of mine has been doing pretty well the last couple of weeks. So, I might start this weekend also?!

I changed my mind. Looking at the forecast for next week it just looks like it'll be too cold. I'm holding off another week, and will plan to tap next weekend (2/15) rather than this weekend (2/8).

Edited to add: Looks like this week we're wrapping up was a good one! Obviously I wasn't tapped in, but hope you did well.

We've had two boils so far and made 17 gallons of syrup so far. I just pulled over 500 gallons of sap out of the woods last night and I am guessing I'll be pulling a ton out again before Saturday. Our first batch was amber-rich, but close to dark (51 on our Hanna digital meter). Our second batch was dark robust but close to very dark (25 on our meter). The last batch of 19 gallons was really dirty as well. Halfway through I had to clean the filter press.....
