Sugar house lighting

Building my new sugar house . Can’t decide what to do for lighting inside . What’s everyone using for lighting ?

We went with LED lighting. Bright lights and no need to worry about glass bulbs.

I did led as well. I got 6 ft long LEDs from home Depot for $30 a piece. 6 of them I'm my 24x12 sugar House lights it up like a surgery room. Moisture resistant and low energy consumption. Can't beat it.

Mine are older, I went with "energy efficient Florescent" at 64 watts/2 bulbs, I have 6(x64watts) units When I update, it will be LED, far more efficient. LED can do it at a small fraction of that and they won't need to warm up to get to full bright.

I went with FlexLED, they are three panel led panels that screw into a standard light socket. One 100w will easily light up a HUGE amount of area. They are awesome

Ordered LED from Amazon. They are a replica of the 4 foot shop light, dual bulb. They are cheap, link together using a standard 110v plug, and draw pretty much nothing for power. That is what sold me since I will be running the sugarhouse on a suitcase generator

I have 4 of these in my 16x24 shack, mounted 10 ft from floors. I feel like it is very well lit and they use very little energy. I wanted at least 4 lights so there could be two rows of lights, I hate lights mounted just in the center of a room. Not only do the corners not get lit, but you are always trying to work in your own shadow.

I just put these in my sugarhouse, got them off Amazon, waterproof LEDs 4’ long and had them installed in about an hour.

These have been working great so far. At $20 a pop they are hard to beat. I only have them mounted temporarily while I remodel the sugarhouse but have been more than please. Plus I still have two more to add, and as mentioned, shadows and dark corns are no fun.

took me a little while to choose what i wanted for lighting. I didnt want traditional lights, nor did i want to be able to see any wiring. This is what i came up with.

These are a little hard to see since they are lit up in the pictures, but I wanted an old timey look and went with a barn style ceiling light. I have 8 of them with LED Bulbs in my 16'x24' shack, and they light it up nicely. I think they were $25 each on sale.

We went with 8' shop light fixtures setup to use 4 4' bulbs. They helped keep the bulbs in line and easier to hand for us. If 4' shop light fixtures work better you can use those.

These bulbs are great. We used them in our evaporator area and kitchen. I also have them in my shop in my garage. However if you seek high bay lights you have another option, which was an awesome deal in VT and NH using rebates.

I got them at LampsPlus (https://www.lampsplus.com/products/urban-barn-10-and-one-quarter-inchw-galvanized-steel-outdoor-ceiling-light__4j462.html) ... but they don't look to be on sale right now. Like I mentioned, I paid only $25 each for them.

Craig those look great in there. I would have to say about the best looking light fixture for the style you are trying to get in there. Great job on it!

Thanks... I definitely got carried away a bit with the building process and aesthetics... but it's been fun, and very excited to start boiling in a week or two!

Off gridder for 20 years. Our farm was ( is) all solar and wind. You can get a great system through Windy Nation. Ron had that and a wind turbine. Very affordable

I use a little solar system for my shack.... A car battery with a couple 40 watt solar panels..... A 75 Watt cigarette lighter inverter provides 120V for some lights and a clock radio... For lighting I run 4 x 8w LED household bulbs on pull-chain fixtures so I can turn a couple on or off when needed. Only other thing I plug in is a phone charger....
Have done 24 hour boils in all sorts of weather conditions and never run the battery dead.

I built a 12' x 18' sugar shack this year with a 6/12 roof pitch using conventional framed rafters. Bought (8) 4' long LED lights that were on sale at the local Farm and Home store for $20 each. Mounted them directly to the bottom of the rafters about 4' up from the walls on both sides so I have 16' of lighting running down each side of the ceiling. They turn on instantly when its cold out and light up the sugar house like a surgical room.
