Started repairing some lines and clearing fallen branches and such. Considering using Zap Bac spouts if anyone has any input. Also need to build a dog house/box for my new to me Sap guzzler to keep it from freezing. I may tap a little earlier (First or second week of Feb) if temps agree since I always seem to miss a good starting run. Also picked up a used CDL 9" syrup vacuum filter to help clear the syrup, my wife is most excited about that since we dread trying to gravity filter.

Best of luck this year. Hope you have a banner season.

So when is everyone actually tapping? I'm from Dudley and I always feel I go to early. But these temp swings have got me anxious. This week end it's supposed to be 48 degrees.
What does everyone make of these temp swings?

Very tempting to tap now but I plan to wait for the forecasted freeze in February. Definitely by Valentines day.

Im with foursapsyrup1, I usually tap around valentines, but im going to watch the 1st and second week of Feb closely to see if it hits ideal temps. Also makes a difference if your on tubing vs buckets. Tubing tolerates tapping early because less bacteria can get to the hole so its less prone to make the hole close up early.

Ditto in Woodville. The temps make me anxious, but around here, the woods are still cold. That 4ish inches we got last weekend is still on the ground and didn't really show noticeable softening until today. The sun is just not quite high enough and strong enough to sustain a run. I'm hopeful that we get back to normal temps soon and we start at our usual time. Next week, we should have a good look at February and decide.
