While not technically home made, this is indeed in the spirit of the small operation / DIY crowd. I found this little gem on-line last year and it worked very well for giving me a pretty good estimate of how much sap I pumped from collection tanks into holding tanks and then I used it to watch just how much sap I was running into the evaporator.
