3/16 end line connector

I am starting to replace my 3/16 lines and I am using Leader fittings . Is it me or are the end line fittings badly designed. Every time you get line tight the lines pop out of the hook on fitting.

I never used Leader 3/16 fittings, but I've found best results are achieved when you wrap the 3/16 around the tree and have the end line hook joint the main 3/16 around the tree at a 90 degree angle. When you try to pull the hook away from the tree trunk and the angle becomes much steeper than 90 degrees it tends to unhook.

I have used the Lapierre "end of the line eyelet" fitting for 11 years and they work perfectly. My nephew put up 130 taps using the Leader end line fittings and you cannot tighten the line with them. They just don't work.

You can also use a 1/4" hollow braid rope, slide the tubing into the center of the rope for 3-4" then out the side. Tie the rope to the end tree and it grips like a Chinese finger trap. Then adjust as needed and put the tap on the end. That method gives you lots of adjustment. To get the tubing threaded into the center, take a ball point pen that unscrews in the middle apart, slide the tubing into the big end of the pen point and push the tip into the rope. It is easy to get the tubing in as far as desired, then out thru the side. A couple of wraps of elec. tape just before the end of the rope helps keep the rope from unraveling

In the past the only Leader end line fitting I've had success with is the end ring fitting. It grips well and is adjustable, but it leaves a kink in the tubing where it grips.

Joe your right you can’t get a tight line with them and this is why I have a love hate relationship with Leader. They don’t put a lot of thought into their product development! Someone above mention their end ring fitting that works but only comes in 5/16 which means you got to start with 5/16 and than reduce it which is pain in keister!

I also use the hollow core rope and have no problems with it.

With the hollow core rope I use field tip off an arrow , the threaded end fits into 3/16 tubing and it's easy to push into the rope. I did a little bit of grinding on the tip to take off any edges

I use leader end hooks and I push a piece of electric fence wire through a length of tubing and wrap it around the tree and twist the wire together behind the line side. I then hook the end hook over that tubing and it's straight and will hold. Not a lot different than hollow core rope.

I just put my first spile in the end (top) of the line and go down from there. Don't see the point in having a loop end.

I used to run hollow-core rope to make it tight and then a vacuum gauge at the top of my runs but don't bother anymore.

We found the end of line hooks by Lapierre and D&G work great for us, we tap a fence staple into the bark to hook into. Its easy and on older trees it doesn't need to be driven much past the bark.

20716 I've been using the cdl end line tee. Put a loop of tubing around the tree on the open ends, and start your lateral on the plug end, Keeps sap from hangin out on the backside of the tree.
