I have a lead on a busch vacuum pump for a good price and am wondering if it will work for maple syrup. It's a Busch RC0025 vain vacuum pump. I can't seem to locate much info on this pump. I'm wondering, 1 if it will work and how many cfms if it will work. Any help would be much appreciated.

How many taps you talking? How "leaky" is your tubing system?
If it is a used pump, you'd want to know what it was used for previously, whether it is operable and if has been rebuilt. I've heard of some people getting burned on used eBay pumps. In some industries they put in a pump, turn it on, and run it until it fails, then sell them to a reseller and get a new one. Or they had liquid pulled through them and seized (sometimes can be fixed).
You also want to be sure to have a fail-safe moisture trap. These style of pumps are rather intolerant of moisture (liquid). Also would probably need a VFD to run it.
Check out this thread http://mapletrader.com/community/showthread.php?33253-Busch-R5-Vacuum-pump JoeJ is a good source of info for these pumps.

I'll have about 1000 taps max on it. I keep my woods nice and tight and leak free. I guess I was just concerned that this pump isn't the best option to use for maple sap collecting.
that should be a 20 cfm pump. if it even works it will handle your woods. but used is buyer beware.

How much are they asking ? im looking at a rc 0063 its 3hp here in Ontario They need a moisture trap for sure and a VFD in most cases. My research has found a lot of these vaine pumps are used in the cnc bussiness holding material in place and vaccing particles away from the work piece. They are a dry running pump but have a oil sump .sap or whatever it is used for doesnt touch the pump interior or oil area. I did call busch tech staff and confirmed it will work with maple sap.The seller also sent a video of it working pulled 29.8" vac with a pc of wood covering the intake. this pump asking price is 2000 cdn with VFD included.

Looks like its just a different style frame. Thats still a 63 cfm pump. Fda wants pumps to be all food grade but reality is the pump is on the back side and in failure anything going through the pump will settle out in the ground not in the food process

They are asking 1000 for it but will try to get it for 700. That's if they answer my questions about it and it looks to be in good working order.
