I'm considering looking to aquire a tote or tank to gather and store our sap.

As this is real new to us, we've utilized plastic garbage cans on the north side of the shop building, and covered in snow to keep the sap cool.

Several times we have had a BIG "sap-cicle", and needed to drag the can out into the sun, or into our garage to heat it up so we could dip out the sap.

When using a tote or tank;
1.) How do you keep a tote or tank cool, and away from the UV rays "outta the sun", yet cool.

2.) IF, it gets cold enough to really freeze, what problems can occur with "futzing" around thawing it out?

Experiences...........?
Thanks!
Pete

Last year was my 1st also and I had 55 gal barrels (food grade of course) and my sap froze. I went to the sheep barn and got a tank heater washed it up good and put in the sap barrel. an hour later I could dip it out to boil

Pete S. Sap-cicles are not a bad thing. just throw away the 'cicle' and boil what is left saves a lot of time(natures RO)
