I know squirrels are a pain to deal with but this really sucks. I've got porcupines eating my trees! Now what can I do about that ????? Jay

Wow. I didn't know they could do that. Some sort of porcupine abatement program needs to be started, and soon. That's terrible.
What the program consists of is up to you...
Maybe consult a specialist or a game relocating/trapper person?
Good luck!

They are always shot on sight in our woods!

same here. shot on site, with whatever is closest by. I got a GSP bird dog 9 years ago, and taking him to the vet to get the quills out was way more expensive and painful than a $0.25 20ga shell. good thing he learned after the 2nd time.

I’ve shot 10-12 of them chewing on my house in the middle of the night over the last few years, log home. Relocating is not an option.

Relocating them to “The Afterlife” is your best option.

Yeah, chewing on a tree is one thing, chewing on your home is another. They gotta go at that point!

Wow! They really stripped that tree. The only fix I know of is to shoot them. I've had them chew patches of bark on some of my trees, but they've never stripped them clean like yours.

I have one large sugar maple that has similar damage, but it goes higher into the canopy as well, beyond what I would think a porcupine could access. Bark stripped right off like that though. I have no definititive answers yet.

If I do have to shoot them I wonder if they will taste mapley ?? Jay

Ask my dog - she'd rather have porcupines, they're easier to catch! There's something about dogs and porcupines where the dogs never seem to learn to leave them be.

The only one I ever had tasted like salt pork.
