I had my Orlon filter and a pre-filter stored in a Ziploc bag in our basement last year...it's usually very dry down there with our dehumidifier but this year has been insanely wet and both filters got what looks like some mold on it that or just discoloration. Any opinions on salvaging this filter?

Toss it, buy a new one. It's too far gone. They are cheap enough just get a new one. It's not worth it to risk losing your hard earned syrup over a $15 filter.
I'd agree. That is most likely mold and even if it's not would you want to risk ditching a batch of finished syrop to find out!?

If your going to save them freeze them. I never save any from season to season. I start with new every year

Thanks, all - I'm going to ditch it. Normally I do freeze it but just slipped my mind last season...live and learn!

I tried to start with new ones. Left two new felt ones and a pack of orlin ones hanging in a plastic bag on the wall in the sugar shed. When I went to use them I discovered the bottom 4" of the felt one missing and the orlon ones with holes in them. On closer inspection found the hole at the top of the plastic bag where some industrious mouse had chewed through, gone to the bottom and struck gold. Apparantly mice prefer felt to orlon for making nests! God knows how many trips he must have made! Luckily it had not touched the other felt filter and I was able to get replacement orlon ones!
