We had our 2nd boil yesterday. We have a Deer Run 125 RO. Ran the first batch or so to 6%+ and when drawing off we got our typical "gumpta" in the filters,...……… black and gooey.

As the day progressed we worked through sap from other woods. Our last run I did have it up to about 8%+ and we noticed on the pan where we set our Brix Hydrometer and the test cup the syrup wasn't just sticky, it was "crystalized sugar" more than anything else.

AND we did not have the black "gumpta" but just a light brown coating that plugged our filters up big time.

"The Boss" was checking with the Hydrometer all day and adjusted our "pull off" down a degree as the weather cleared in the afternoon.

This AM looks like as have a pail of "sugary syrup"

WHAT HAPPENED??????????

BTW,...…….. PeteS here under a new account as our old one had some email issues.

Appreciate any words of wisdom.

Your syrup is too heavy. Check your hydrometer for accuracy. Usually on a sunny day our draw off temp goes up not down.
Good news is you can thin it and re-check at cold temp line or with a Murphy cup.
