I went to order filter aid from CDL and found out there's two kinds: Celite and Dicalite.

I'm pretty sure I've always used Dicalite, but my CDL rep has Celite in stock. Is it a brand thing or am I going to notice a difference between the two? Thought I'd ask before I picked it up and found out I need to change my process, didn't like it, or something.

Thanks for the input

Celite is a finer grade of DE. The Dicalite is courser and requires 30% less to do the same amount of filtering.

Joe

I just realized this morning that what I stated above in backwards. Celite is courser and Dicalite is finer.

I have a five hollow plate 10" filter press and it takes 70 cups of Dicalite to fill all the hollow plates and only 56 cups of Celite.

Hmmm this post made me think. I have used some DE in my gravity filtering, but I just bought food grade DE. Does anyone have experience with one being better for gravity filtering?

Try asking mountainvan and see if he knows. He does the most syrup I'm aware of who at least used to use DE with gravity filtering.
