Planning to put in a high vac system for 125 taps on land sloping away from the sugarhouse for next year. The farthest tap is approximately 1200' from the sugarhouse. I'm planning on using a traditional high vac tubing system. I need to lift the sap approximately 20' in order to get it to gravity back to the sugarhouse. What would be the best value for the money, lifters vs ladders? I don't have any electricity out in the woods. I'm planning on generating vacuum starting at the shack but am not sure what to use for a high vacuum pump. Recommendations welcome. Thanks.

Im curious about the answers you will get.
I believe youd be better off not using either but to use a portable transfer tank to haul the sap back to the sugarhouse. With only125 taps, the typical haul could be sized down, or up to a convenient size. Then you'd get the max out of the vacuum. Also 20 ft over 1200 gravity can sometimes be challenging to build without any sags. Sags will mean freeze ups.

I can't believe you haven't gotten any replies besides from me! I thought it seemed like a good question worthy of some technical thought.

My opinion is to use ladders. I have several ladders throughout my system that work well as long as the system is tight. The reason I use ladders is sap lifters introduce air into your system when they lift. Introducing air in a system will cause the location it's introduced in to freeze faster. The most taps I lift is 300, if I was doing more I would build a doghouse around a lifter and heat it. Hope this helps.
